“The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.” ~ G.K. Chesterton
Jim Steinberg
Jim Steinberg is a travel, nature and natural history photographer who seamlessly moves between the roles of photographer, instructor and mentor. He has a natural talent for putting his students at ease while opening their minds to new approaches to photography in an entertaining and nurturing manner. Jim was the first director of the National Geographic Photography Workshops and has taught for The Center for Natural Photography and Arizona Highways Photo Workshops. His work has been published in National Geographic, Backpacker, National Parks, Audubon, Nature Conservancy and Nature’s Best magazines. He has several books to his credit and won the 2008 & 2009 Colorado Book Award (Pictorial) and Foreword Magazine 2009 Book of the Year (Travel) for Colorado Scenic Byways, Taking the Other Road.
Jim makes his home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and has traveled more than 2 million miles across the globe while pursuing his passion for photography. His extensive knowledge and skill, when combined with his enthusiasm and passion for teaching, will provide you with a fun, relaxed and rewarding photographic workshop. He understands that it is always the people you share the journey with, and the characters you meet along the way, that makes your photographic holiday a more enjoyable and enriching experience.
Lori Lause
Lori Lause is the trip leader for our photography workshops and will make sure that your Travels with NIK experience combines the very best photographic instruction with an exciting and active holiday. Lori has spent years in the travel business, from managing major hotels in Chicago to owning her own travel agency, and has lead numerous photographic workshops with nationally-known photographers throughout the United States. She is also an avid photographer who specializes in black & white street photography and environmental portraiture while exploring other creative photographic techniques such as the use of infrared photography to capture moody landscapes. Lori works with a variety of Nikon cameras, flashes and lenses to capture her images and a combination of Aperture, Photoshop and NIK Software to help bring them to life.
Lori Lause is a recovering Chicagoan currently banished to Scottsdale, Arizona, and wears many hats during our photographic workshops: directionally challenged navigator; schlepper and sherpa; chatty cabbie; therapist, analyst and alchemist; intergalactic guide and gadabout; peripatetic paparazzo and purveyor of potent potables; goat whisperer and scorpion wrangler; and facilitator, mediator and percolator.
