Watching Hippos run with their long Stout Bodies

Apr 09, 1996

Well, the solar generator is repaired and operational once again, so as we prepare for the long journey home we give you one last post from location. Watching hippos (hippopotamus amphibius) run with their long stout bodies and short little legs can be quite amusing, as long as they are not running at you, as they can move at up to 30km an hour! This young fellow in the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia had become separated from the remainder of his pod and upon finding them was running to catch up while taking this hitch-hiking Yellow Billed Oxpecker (Buphagusafricanus) along for the ride.
